MOVIE NEWS – Shawn Levy, who was set to be the director of the Uncharted film that has been standing still for roughly a decade at this point, has left…
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Levy has moved on to work on Free Guy, which was recently greenlit by 20th Century Fox. (It is another video game-themed film, featuring a man, who realises that he lives in a video game world – his goal is to stop the developers from shutting it down. It will star Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, and Lil Rel. Shooting starts in April.)
Thus, Sony has to look for another director to make Nathan Drake’s debut on the big screen possible. The website pointed out that Tom Holland still fills Nathan Drake’s role, but who knows for how long? Levy was the fourth director that left the Uncharted film, which was announced in 2009. It’s planned to be a prequel to the games with a script written by Joe Carnahan (Blacklist).
It’s getting ridiculous that Sony is unable to kickstart significant work on the Uncharted film even after a decade. Meanwhile, even Tomb Raider’s reboot was released this year!
