In just one week, Activision Blizzard sees two of its executives either leave or get fired – we see such a scenario happen rarely in a week…
First, the publisher giant fired its chief financial officer (CFO) – Spencer Neumann wasn’t fired due to their monthly active users dropping, nor for their stocks falling over the course of the year (26% in 2018… with a 10% decline in November and a 44.2% in the last quarter), no; the official reason is a „cause unrelated to the Company’s financial reporting or disclosure controls and procedures.” (Good luck figuring that one out!) Reuters reports that Neumann will be the new CFO of Netflix, and his replacement at Activision Blizzard is Dennis Durkin, the chief corporate officer at that company.
The second person that left Activision Blizzard is Amrita Ahuja, the previous CFO of Blizzard. She was poached by Jack Dorsey (Twitter-founder!) to join his mobile payment company Square.
„In Amrita, we have found an amazing, multidimensional business leader. Amrita brings the ability to consider and balance opportunities across our entire business, and she will help strengthen our discipline as we invest, build, and scale,” Dorsey said.
Ahuja joined Activision Blizzard eight years ago, and she became the CFO of Blizzard in March. If we add Mike Morhaime’s leave (he was the president of Blizzard), as well as Neumann’s sudden termination, then there might be some trouble brewing in Activision Blizzard…
