In both Japan and the United Kingdom, Square Enix‘ long-awaited title has brought critically positive results.
Let’s start with Japan (as Kingdom Hearts III came out on January 25 there): Gematsu has published Media Create’s physical sales charts from the January 21-27. In Japan, in only three days, 610077 copies were sold, and remember, this figure doesn’t include digital sales! Kingdom Hearts III has beaten Resident Evil 2 Remake (252848) so much that it’s hard to believe. Also, both games got only a PlayStation 4 physical version (as the Xbox One has flopped hard).
In the United Kingdom, the game also took the best (physical!) launch of the franchise (although UKIE and GFK data does not go back to November 2002, when the first Kingdom Hearts launched), as compared to the second, initially PS2-exclusive main title, twice as more copies of Kingdom Hearts III were sold. Due to the franchise’s history, we aren’t surprised to see that KH III sold far better on the PlayStation 4 (82%) than the Xbox One (18%). Resident Evil 2 Remake, as in Japan, has slipped to second place.
Let’s take a look at the UK charts (with last week’s position in brackets):
