The Crash Team Racing-remaster, which was announced in December, is showing significant improvements over the PS1 original that came out in 1999.
Beenox (who worked on the Spider-Man games in the past few years, but they also helped with the Skylanders and the Call of Duty franchise, too) seems to have found the right tone that was hit by the PS1 twenty years ago. The go-kart racing might feel out of place (back then, Naughty Dog was obviously inspired by Mario Kart 64…), but you can get used to it and its controls in no time, but mastering the boost drifting, the racing, and the proper usage of items will take time. We’re glad to see that there’s a split-screen mode in the game because online gameplay will never be able to fully replace couch co-op.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled will launch on June 21 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch and no PC version. (From the videos below, we’d like to you look at the first one – frankly, the Polygon gameplay shows some outright weak gameplay…)
