There are some questions – as well as answers – about Borderlands 3.
Tales from the Borderlands was developed by the now non-existent Telltale. One of its protagonists was Rhys, who was voiced by Troy Baker. This character will also show up in Borderlands 3, which is why it’s an obvious thing to ask: will Baker reprise his role? His answer can be read here (): „I really want Gearbox to know that, if they’re going to bring back characters from the Telltale Borderlands, it should really be the people who originated the characters.” In other words: it doesn’t seem like he is going to be voicing Rhys in Borderlands 3, but he hinted at the fact that he should be in the game.
Here’s when Randy Pitchford, the head of Gearbox steps in. He was asked on Twitter whether Baker is voicing Rhys or not in Borderlands 3. His answer follows: „You’ll have to ask Troy. I was told by the audio director that he turned it down. Fortunately, with how Rhys appears in the game, I don’t think it actually matters at all. You’ll see for yourself when the game comes out and you may disagree with me on that or not.”
What about cross-play? As Borderlands 3 uses Unreal Engine 4 – and since the PC version will first show up on Epic Games Store -, the question makes sense. GameSpot asked 2K Games, and they got this statement as an answer: „Cross-play is something we’re looking at closely, but we don’t have anything to confirm or announce at this time.” So they didn’t immediately say no – at least they are considering cross-play for the game.
Borderlands 3 will be out on Friday the 13th in September on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on the Epic Games Store on PC.
