It’s questionable whether Nintendo will allow this Super Mario Odyssey project to be finished – they tend to use their classic cease & desist method (in other words: stop working on what you do or you will face legal issues…).
Kaze Emanuar, a modder has been spending time on remaking Super Mario Odyssey, a Nintendo Switch game in… Super Mario 64! Super Mario 64 came out in 1996, and it was one of the revolutionary 3D platformers: as one of the Nintendo 64’s launch titles, it took the Italian plumber from two dimensions into three, and this was the first game, where Mario’s voice, Charles Martinet, has debuted. Since then, he kept his role, and he has also voiced several other characters from the Mario universe. It was an outstanding game for its time: although it might feel slightly outdated even with its open-world approach, back in 1996, Shigeru Miyamoto’s shocked everyone positively!
Super Mario Odyssey is being remade in this game, complete with all the hat moves: you can throw your hat to temporarily possess enemies, too. It’s unbelievable how a near twenty-three-year-old game (as Super Mario 64 came out on June 23, 1996, in Japan) can still stand its ground, aside from the graphics. You can see two videos a paragraph below from his channel ().
We praise ideas such as Mario Odyssey 64, but we’re afraid that Nintendo will not allow this project to be done. However, if they let it be completed, then all we can say it’s going to be one of many impressive Mario 64 hacks by Kaze. Remember, this game is from three (almost four…) console generations before. Let’s end with the usual chorus as we tend to do in similar topics: human creativity knows no boundaries.
