Instead of porting StudioMDHR‘s game to the PlayStation 4, Cuphead and Mugman move to another platform (?).
Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, confirmed during the newest Ride the Lightning podcast that Cuphead is going to be available on Tesla‘s electric devices. The game is already working properly on Model 3, Model S, and Model X – Tesla worked together with StudioMDHR on the unexpected port: „Cuphead we’ve got working. It’s a cool game. It’s insanely difficult. It’s sadistically difficult,” Musk said. He added that a dune buggy game is also in development for Tesla.
StudioMDHR – who made Cuphead using the Unity engine; Tesla was working on making the engine supported on its operating system – also confirmed to IGN that Cuphead will launch on the Tesla vehicles this summer. (It’s still weird to write that sentence down!) However, the backside of the port is that only the first part of Inkwell Isle (so, about twenty-five per cent of the game tops) is playable due to storage space considerations. „When Tesla reached out to us to bring Cuphead to their vehicles, we were thrilled! Finding out that Mr Musk was a fan of our game was extremely humbling and getting a chance to work with such an innovative company has been really exciting. We hope Cuphead can add some classic fun to such forward-thinking vehicles,” StudioMDHR‘s Maja Moldenhauer said.
However, it’s not the first game for Tesla‘s cars! (Or in them…?) A few Atari classics, such as Asteroids and Lunar Launcher, are already available for them. Cuphead will require a wired (!) USB controller, as the touch screen is not supported. Also, and this is the most important tidbit: you can only play any of the games while being parked, so no gaming while driving for you, thankfully!
