Halo: The Master Chief Collection, but not on PC or one of Microsoft’s consoles? There’s a possibility that it could have happened.
Colin Moriarty, who formerly wrote for IGN, during the latest episode of the Sacred Symbols: A PlayStation Podcast, revealed that Microsoft was looking into potentially bringing Halo: The Master Chief Collection over to Sony’s platform, namely the PlayStation 4. It was a few years ago, way before Sony and Microsoft teaming up to work on cloud technology, so it’s not a recent thing. „I have it on good authority that Master Chief Collection was being talked about on PlayStation 4 years ago. Like, I have that on great authority,” said Moriarty while speaking to co-host Chris Ray Gunn.
Moriarty thinks it wouldn’t be surprising if the Xbox games would show up on the next-gen PlayStation (which we call PlayStation 5 for a lack of an official name) in the next few years, as he believes Microsoft wants to bring the Xbox brand everywhere. The Redmond-based company sees the future in software and services (and the latter is something they teamed up to an extent with Sony!), and they could recover lost money on hardware sales with software sales – in other words, Xbox might see a decrease in sales, but in return, the Xbox Game Studios titles could see a bigger reach, and thus, they would see an increase in their sales.
Of course, this is not official information, but Moriarty has previously been a reliable source when it came to PlayStation-related information, and even after leaving IGN, he is likely to have his connections in the industry. It wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft did try to pull it off, and it would also not be a surprise if it was Sony that shot the idea down. (Perhaps Sony could have responded by announcing a Killzone collection for PlayStation 4. The first game would have been an interesting title on the PS4.)
