We can prepare for some rainy races in Polyphony Digital‘s game, meaning the wet conditions could also play a role in who takes the win.
During the World Tour 2019 Nürburgring Nations Cup race, Sony and Polyphony Digital introduced rain and light rain conditions – the issue here is that the weather doesn’t seem to be dynamic, but they have to start somewhere. After all, in 2001, Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec on the PS2 didn’t have that either – the Special Stage Route 5’s wet version just had a wet track.
It was clarified that there will be no physical differences between the rain and light rain conditions, but – obviously – you’ll need a longer brake distance and different racing lines than on a dry racing track. „It’s interesting. It’s something we haven’t done in a while. Obviously, it was on GT6, but we were all pretty excited to have it running and yeah, it was awesome. It was obviously providing some chaotic racing and the qualifying was really close, so we’re looking forward to getting it later on in the update, so we can play it more at home and play it with our mates as well, it will be good,” Matt Simmons, a competitor, said about the sudden rainy event.
So Gran Turismo Sport is going to get wet in a later upgrade, but let’s be frank: the now-defunct Evolution Studios’ DriveClub (which we previously wrote about how it will be delisted at the end of the summer on the PlayStation Store!) already showed how it’s done, and that game came out before GT Sport. (Perhaps the next-gen Gran Turismo, which has to be in development, will catch up on this front!)
You can watch a brief video with an overview of the two conditions, the first ever official race in light rain conditions, as well as a qualifying lap in full rain conditions.
