Kevin Conroy has confirmed that the next Batman game (which is developed by Warner Bros. Montreal) is not going to have him as Batman.
WB’s Montreal studio has hinted several times that they are developing a Batman title. The last time they made one, it was in 2013 with Batman: Arkham Origins (the rest of the series were made by Rocksteady, who are also silent recently). They recently also teased on Batman’s 80th birthday that the next game is going to be based on the Court of Owls. (We wrote about this subject.)
Conroy told JOE that he is not involved, and he also doesn’t know why this is the case. There could be a good explanation, though: Roger Craig Smith could take his spot. We heard him in 2013 in Batman: Arkham Origins, so WB Montreal might be going for some continuity here with this move. Of course, this hasn’t been confirmed, but Smith started teasing something Batman related as well. Here’s what he wrote on September 21 on Twitter with a Batman keychain photo: „Happy Batman Day, everyone! Had this keychain since 2013, when life got very surreal. [I’m] honoured to have had the chance to be a part of this character’s history and thankful for the incredible fan base who keep the Dark Knight going strong!”, Smith wrote.
Warner hasn’t announced anything yet, which is not only getting annoying but also slightly weird – several years have passed since Batman: Arkham Knight and a new Batman game is effectively an open secret at this point. It might be in development for the next-gen platforms, as we’re about a year away from the PlayStation 5’s and the Xbox Project Scarlett’s launch. (No info on when Sony and Microsoft could exactly launch their respective console.)
