BioShock’s Creator’s Next Game’s Genre Has Been Found

Ken Levine has been entirely silent, but he is working on something new. Now, we know what is genre is going to be.

The last time we saw a game from Levine, it was in 2013, when BioShock Infinite was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. It got a two-part DLC called Burial at Sea in 2014. Since then, the dev team, Irrational Games, has renamed itself to Ghost Story Games, plus it got downsized to focus on more narrative-focused experiences. The company’s president is still Levine.

Take-Two Interactive has sneakily put something into its job listings. One of them mentions that Ghost Story Games’ next game is going to be an immersive simulator. However, there are no further details about Ken Levine’s next game in the job listing, but they mention that applicants should have experience not only in the immersive genre but also in shooter games, as well as action-RPGs. We have to quickly mention that BioShock (no matter if it’s the first or second game) and BioShock Infinite aren’t necessarily in that genre, but the games all took cues from immersive sim titles.

Ken Levine is likely sticking to his roots, and if he can stay within the BioShock IP, then the game could focus a bit more on its lore, but since a smaller team (less than forty employees at Ghost Story Games – it’s not a big team nowadays!) is developing the next game that hasn’t even been announced (thus, no release window or target platforms are known), it’s likely going to be a smaller scale game than BioShock Infinite.

Since we’re just a year or so away from the launch of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Project Scarlett, it might be possible that Ken Levine’s next game will also be a next-gen title.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
