Nowadays, it is often to see franchises teaming up (we have seen Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher III: Wild Hunt in Monster Hunter: World…), but this collaboration has surprised us…
It’s been ten years since Left 4 Dead 2 came out. (November 17, 2009, on PC and Xbox 360 in North America, and November 20 in Europe, respectively.) Valve‘s game’s four protagonists, namely Coach, Nick, Rochelle, and Ellis have been mostly forgotten, and – as Team Fortress, Half-Life, and Portal – these series are also under the curse of the number three. There is no third instalment. (Gabe Newell, the head of Valve, seems to be afraid of this number…)
However, Techland, the Polish dev team that are currently working on Dying Light 2 (out next Spring on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and it’s been confirmed to be in development for the next-gen PlayStation 5 and the codenamed Xbox Project Scarlett, too), wrote the following on Twitter: „Survivors! Are you ready for some serious zombie slaying? [The] Left 4 Dead 2 style is coming!” They also used the term „left 4 dead” previously in an October 21 tweet that confirmed the end of the Dying Light: Deadeye’s Promise event.
We don’t know anything else at the moment, so we don’t know how much was Valve involved in this collaboration with Techland (which makes sense, as both series have us killing zombies…), but it underlines the Polish team’s comment about serious post-launch support for the game (which came out in early 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC…), which will also be the case for Dying Light 2.
As Left 4 Dead 2 hits its tenth anniversary in November, we’ll keep an eye on more information next month.
