And no, the game will not be called Assassin’s Creed: Kingdom, according to the rumours – perhaps it’s because Ubisoft‘s project got leaked way too early…
„The game was codenamed Kingdom but now is called Assassin’s Creed Ragnarok. [It will] release Fall 2020 on both old and new-gen [consoles]. [The] reveal [will happen] during the PlayStation event in February. [There will be a] Viking setting, c. 800 BC. [The] map includes Scandinavia and a big part of England, including London and Plymouth. [There’s a] choice between a woman and a man, but there’s no impact on the story – that stays the same. [The] protagonist, [regardless of] woman or male, is called Jora, and [they will] become an Assassin during the game. [The] Brotherhood system is back, with recruitable NPCs. You can still use a boat to travel on sea, but there’s less naval combat than in Black Flag or Odyssey in my opinion. Story-wise, the game is focused on a revenge quest, with a big part of [the] first civilization’s story.
Realms like Asgard or Jötunheimr can be visited in the game. Mythical beings, such as Odin or Loki, play a big part in the story, as well as the Yggdrasil. [The] game has a present-day part but as much as Origins or Odyssey. It will conclude the present-day storyline. [The] gameplay is the same as [in] Odyssey, with improved mechanics and further RPG elements,” the anonymous leaker claims on Reddit.
This post mostly follows what we heard so far – Ubisoft probably saw God of War’s success, and they picked the same region/period for the next game, which will follow Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’s example of launching on two console generations, meaning it will not only get a PlayStation 5 and an Xbox Project Scarlett version aside from the PC, but a PlayStation 4 and an Xbox One port, too. However, keep in mind that it isn’t confirmed yet.
…but we see the PlayStation 5 reveal event in February again.
