BioShock 4 Will Surprise Us

Jordan Thomas, the series’ former creative director said it (and he worked on all three games, namely BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite – he was the creative director of 2).

„I hope they cast off the chains of the past, that they feel as unbound as possible. That is what I’d hope the series [is] known for: taking you to places you didn’t expect, thematically and physically. [BioShock] is still a bombastic action shooter, but it can be seminal in the sense that it inspired people to try harder and to exceed what we managed to do. And I think there’s a role for games like that. You can be deeply critical of all three games, but I do think it asked people: ‘Hey, could we do a little more?’ I’m glad to see the industry get a little bit more interested in what their games are saying,” Jordan Thomas told VGC‘s Samuel Horti.

Thomas also revealed that the publisher has interfered in BioShock 2’s creative direction, so already ten years ago, we had AAA games that the developers had to change from their original idea to what the publisher wanted. He added that it was a „heartbreaking series of returns to reality,” as he was forced to find a balance between his creative direction and Take-Two/2K’s demands. He wanted to focus on Rapture’s past with a Little Sister learning her history. But he had to change plans to the corporates’ demands, but he added some surrealism to the mix.

We wrote last year that the next BioShock, which isn’t officially called BioShock 4 yet, is in development, but it does not have involvement by Ken Levine, the creator of BioShock. A new studio called Cloud Chamber is working on the game. It’s almost certain to be a next-gen title, meaning it’s coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox (Series X), and PC.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
