The Wonderful 101 Remastered: The Multiplatform Super Team [VIDEO]

We had a good hunch: PlatinumGames has indeed pulled out the Wii U-exclusive The Wonderful 101! UNITE UP! But what is this Platinum4 thing…?

The dev team has indeed resorted to using Kickstarter, as they want to self-publish The Wonderful 101 Remastered. Now for the serious figures: the original target of 49890 dollars has been reached in half an hour! At the time of writing, the campaign – with 31 days remaining – is at over one million dollars. What does it mean?

50 thousand dollars for the Nintendo Switch port. Bam, reached in thirty minutes. 250K for the Steam version. (Why Steam? Hideki Kamiya, the director The Wonderful 101, said in an interview that this platform has more users…) It’s been hit. 500K, PlayStation 4 port. That’s also going to happen. One million bucks will result in a Time Attack mode. That’s also happening. At 1.5 million, we’re going to get a new, 2D, side-scroller adventure called Luka’s First Mission, featuring a young hero. What about the Xbox One version? We’d guess either two or two and a half million dollars. (It’s not in the stretch goal list for now.)

Kamiya has confirmed in an interview that they don’t rule out an Xbox One version. That’s why we’re guessing. Oh, and all this is happening „thanks to the kindness of Nintendo.” The big N was the original publisher of the game. Did they hand over the IP rights to PlatinumGames?

PlatinumGames will release The Wonderful 101 Remastered in April! It’s a bold move from the studio, who admittedly wants to use the funds from the crowdfunding to cover the self-publishing costs. The trailer fits the superheroes. (Especially Kamiya’s attack. He put himself into the game, but with harsh self-critique: he dies from a single hit!)

Let’s talk about Platinum4. You can find the website here. The company has four projects. One of them has been confirmed to be The Wonderful 101 Remastered. It means the team has three more things. If we had to guess, the second one could be Bayonetta 2 also going multiplatform (it is exclusive to the Nintendo Wii U and the Switch for now). It might get another Kickstarter campaign. The third one could be Scalebound (which we will discuss separately today). The fourth one might be a new NieR game. NieR, NieR: RepliCant (2010, PS3), NieR: Gestalt (2010, PS3/X360), NieR: Automata (2017/2018, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One). If we take out NieR: RepliCant (the only Japan-exclusive game), we got three NieR titles in the West…

We’ll see what PlatinumGames is planning. They recently got investments from Tencent to help their self-publishing ambitions…
