Is The Weaker Next-Gen Xbox Model’s Price Revealed?

It looks like Microsoft could indeed call the weaker next-gen Xbox model (with the Lockhart codename) Xbox Series S – just as we predicted.

„Hearing that Microsoft will share Lockhart details for the first time soon. [They] should give insight into Xbox’s multi-SKU approach to the next generation. Remember, this console with a 4 TFLOPS [AMD] Navi GPU & [AMD Ryzen] Zen CPU is [an] entry model and [it is] overall better than [the Xbox One X] today. [Its price will be] around $300,” Dealer Gaming wrote on Twitter.

Let’s go over the tweet. 4 TFLOPS is slightly less computing power than the PlayStation 4 Pro (4.2 TFLOPS), and it is indeed lower than the Xbox One X (6 TFLOPS), but allegedly, it will be superior to the currently strongest console. The multi-SKU means that Microsoft will have multiple console models on the market. (Which would explain why the currently announced Xbox Series X is called as such – it would provide a perfect chance for Microsoft to call the rumoured weaker model Xbox Series S.)

Back in January, WCCFTech wrote that the Xbox Series X APU (putting a processor and a graphics chip on a single die) would have an eight-core Ryzen CPU, as well as 16 GB of shared memory. 12 GB of it would be RAM, and 4 GB would be VRAM. Let’s doubt that: laptops tend to use this solution, and also, consoles are more into GDDR nowadays, but we’ll eat the humble pie if we are proven wrong.

The Xbox Series X will launch this Holiday season, close to the PlayStation 5 (probably in November). Nor Microsoft, neither Sony have confirmed the existence of a weaker console at the moment. However, we have heard rumours about both manufacturers…
