Resident Evil 3 Remake – New details about Capcom’s upcoming game.
In the OXM magazine, you can read a lot of about Resident Evil 3 Remake, and we’ll go through the new information first. They were up on Reddit before in a bullet point format, but a misconception made it be deleted. Let’s clear this up: originally, the post said that Nemesis could get into all save (safe) rooms. That’s not true. There are places where you can find typewriters to save, even though these locations don’t seem to be your ordinary save rooms. Thus, you have to listen to the musical cue. If you hear the classic save room music, you are safe from Nemesis.
Raccoon City is said to be much larger than its counterpart in the original game. It allows you to visit more locations than in the original. There are also several paths you can take. Also, Jill will be capable of fast travel with the help of underground passages to access specific places in the city. There will be several hints at Resident Evil 2’s remake as well here and there. There might also be some sub-objectives to gain weapons improvements. (In the original, if you knocked Nemesis out, you might have received half of a new, stronger weapon. If you collected both parts A and B, you could combine them to get a new gun.) Jill’s looks could get worse throughout the game: for example, a tour to the sewers will make her clothes dirty and soaking. It will disappear over time.
You might need to do some strategic decisions to defeat the enemies or Nemesis (the latter would be temporary, of course). Performing a perfect dodge would also give you a chance to do a specific move depending on the situation to give you the edge. The enemies will be smarter, and they will accordingly respond to your location/situation. The Grave Digger (the huge underground worm) and the Hunter Betas will show up, not to mention the spiders. There will also be new creatures that were not shown yet.
Carlos will be a playable character for a longer period than in the original, and he might help Jill here and there (and not just once). There will be no branches in the story (and no quick decisions – we previously wrote about it), but we could learn why the characters do and act as they do in the game.
Peter Fabiano, the producer of Resident Evil 3 Remake, said that we’ll get to look into a few stores we couldn’t in the original. The game won’t be open-world, but they wanted to pay attention to detail, complete with little homages to the ’90s and the ’80s. He thinks it will be fun even for those who already played the original two decades ago.
He discussed the dodge mechanic as well. There are the quickstep and the perfect dodge. Thus, we could consider Resident Evil 3 Remake as an action game, but it is still a survival horror title regardless. They wanted to stay as close to the essence of the original as possible (which makes sense – RE3 was more action-packed than the first two titles, but it stayed in the same genre).
Last but not least, a PlayStation Underground video that compares the original with the remake that comes on April 3 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, complete with a 4v1 asymmetric multiplayer, Resident Evil Resistance.
