Microsoft‘s game streaming service aims to expand into eleven more countries.
Project xCloud‘s preview program started in October, but only four countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Korea) received Microsoft’s service. They said that they want to expand over time, starting with Western European countries. That is what’s going to happen soon, according to Catherine Gluckstein’s (general manager and head of product for Project xCloud) post.
The coronavirus has slowed down the expansion (but let the xCloud spread and not COVID-19!), as the quarantines and curfews put pressure on the Internet infrastructure (and more people play and spend on the net – we discussed both subjects in the past month). Yet, Microsoft will launch Project xCloud in eleven countries „when it is sensible to do so” on supported Android devices (iOS support to follow later).
„We will take a measured approach to help conserve internet access, beginning the preview in each market with a limited number of people and adding more participants over time. Upcoming Project xCloud preview countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, and Sweden.
Today, we’re opening up registration for Android customers in these preview markets and asking players across Western Europe who want to participate in Preview to sign up, then when we’re ready to begin, you’ll receive a notification email with further instructions. We’ll continue to evaluate the situation and will follow up as soon as we can to confirm when selected participants can begin to test the technology and help build the future of game streaming with us. For those interested in joining the Project xCloud preview, please visit www.xbox.com/projectxcloud and register today,” the post says.
PlayStation Now, Project xCloud, Project Atlas, Project Tempo, Google Stadia, GeForce Now, GameMatrix – more and more companies are entering the streaming market.
