What on Earth is Dambuster Studios doing? We haven’t even seen the PlayStation 4/Xbox One version yet, and now they want to consider the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X!?
Dead Island 2 is slowly sliding into the same scenario as Duke Nukem Forever or Aliens: Colonial Marines. It’s been announced several years ago (it’s been in development since 2012 or so…), while multiple dev teams have left the project, and we’re nearing the launch of another console generation. Now Dambuster posts a job listing for an art director. What were they doing until now?
„We need you to lead our art team as they create the sun-soaked backdrop to a full-scale zombie apocalypse set across the iconic Californian city for the next instalment in the world-renowned Dead Island franchise. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to further your career by leading the art direction on a ground-breaking title for current and future platforms at a genuinely progressive and forward-thinking studio. Do you have proven experience in leading world-class art teams to deliver AAA console focused titles? If so, then we have your next challenge waiting,” their job listing says.
„For current and future platforms?” What a bold move: so the game is not only in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC but also the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Shouldn’t they focus on getting the current-gen version done first before the next-gen consoles get the game?
This game has been in development for nearly eight years. First, Techland worked on it before they left to team up with Warner and develop Dying Light. Then Yager (Spec Ops: The Line) took over but got the boot. Sumo Digital followed (who also got removed from the seat, and recently, they flopped with Crackdown 3). Now, Dambuster is working on it.
We wouldn’t be surprised if Techland releases Dying Light 2 before Dead Island 2 is completed. Techland’s game comes at an unknown time, and it’s also a cross-gen title. If it happens, then they’d have two games done and dusted before Dead Island’s sequel becomes available…
