Cyberpunk 2077: Night City Will Get At Least Two Expansions

CD Projekt RED already hints at a day-1 patch – but the reason behind it is unusual. What about the PlayStation 5?

The Polish company has released its financial results of the previous fiscal year, and they also answered a few questions by the investors. One of the questions was about expanding Cyberpunk 2077 (aside from the multiplayer, which is likely arriving in 2022). Adam Kiciński, the CEO of CD Projekt RED, said that the game will have „no less DLC than The Witcher 3 had.” Geralt got two big expansions (he meant these, not the smaller, free, cosmetic items), which both got announced about three months before they were released, so Night City should be getting a similar treatment.

The coronavirus did affect the game’s development, though, and we don’t mean CD Projekt RED working remotely on Cyberpunk 2077: „There are some difficulties with the localization process, specifically with recording some of the actors. However, we have managed to record the vast majority of the voice-overs, but there are always some last pick-up sessions, and we’re not very worried about that because that’s something we can record even later and add in the form of a digital patch, so by the moment the customers will actually buy the game in September they would just download a file which would add the missing pieces of recordings, but that process has been hampered a little bit. It’s the only thing that’s on our radar, everything else we are either already past that hurdle, so we’re not impacted by it, or things are progressing smoothly or business as usual I would say,” Michal Nowakowski, the senior vice president of business development, told VGC.

But what about the PlayStation 5 version? „When it comes to a proper fully-blown next-gen version, that’s going to come later. We haven’t announced when and I don’t have a new comment here on that, but such patch will be available for everybody who purchases the Xbox One version from the get-go, once that update is live they will be able to download it free of charge. And again, I cannot comment on the policies of the first-parties before they officially announce anything, so I cannot address the PlayStation part of the question.”

So the Xbox Series X version should be free for those who already own the Xbox One port of the game (Smart Delivery system), but it might come later, meaning it could miss being a launch title. And they might be waiting for Sony to reveal their approach to cross-gen titles, and it’s possibly the reason behind their silence.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on September 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
