The developers and publishers continue the trend that started roughly a month ago: the more games they offer us for free, the more we can stay at home playing their offerings.
The first freebie has been available since yesterday evening (or morning/early afternoon in the US). However, it’s not just a PC-exclusive deal, as Bandai Namco has made Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 available for free until May 10 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as well. It’s a modern reimagination of a classic game from the ’80s, making that iconic character known and played even in 2020. We’ll not quote the publisher’s statement, but we’ll say that you should be finding the title on both the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store for free by now, not just on Steam – sadly, the Nintendo Switch is not part of the deal, but having three platforms out of four is still a good ratio. After the deal ends, the game will remain available on your account!
On the Epic Games Store, at the moment, there is only one title up for grabs. One is still more than zero, though. For The King can be played either solo or in online co-op. It mixes turn-based combat with roguelike elements, and maps, quests, and events are procedurally generated, meaning each playthrough will be different. (Think No Man’s Sky.)
We already know that next week (from April 30), Epic Games Store will offer Frictional Games’ classic, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a first-person survival horror from 2010, which was available for free virtually everywhere by this point, except for the EGS. The other game will be an action-adventure RPG, Crashlands, where you are a galactic truck driver stranded on an alien planet, embroiled in a nefarious plot of world domination that you have to stop.
More games to stay at home is always welcome. It’s better to be defensive than to get sick.
