Tim Sweeney isn’t taking a break – however, we need to do a bit more to access the freebie games.
Let’s start with the free games: Epic Games Store now requires us to use 2FA (two-factor authentication) until May 21 to add the games to your account, the company announced on their website. 2FA will be required from time to time to encourage the users „to take steps to strengthen their Epic account security.”
To enable 2FA, head to your Epic Games account settings. If enabled, each time you log in using your password, you will receive a security code that you must enter to gain access to your account. You can use your email address as well, but you must confirm your address first to use this solution. (It’s been a common solution – Steam, GOG, Humble Bundle, and IndieGala all use a similar solution. Especially how they recently said that some 160K accounts were hijacked.)
The other news is about how Epic Games Store added five new supported currencies. On Twitter, they said that Australia, Canada, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden joined the countries where their local currency can be used. A good example of it would be Death Stranding. Recently, we wrote about how Kojima’s game is getting a good 1.5-month delay on PC because of the coronavirus – if we convert the 60 USD to Australian dollars, the cost would be 110 AUD. However, the local pricing makes it a fair amount cheaper: 91 is much less than 110.
Epic Games Store’s development roadmap says that the Trending storefront category, mod support, self-service refunds, offline sign-ins, add-on content discovery, and achievements are coming shortly. Tim Sweeney isn’t giving up – they want to give fair competition to Steam. However, we’re not supposed to decide whether they are on the right path or not.
