Bloober Team explains why they focused on the new generation to make the game they always dreamed of for The Medium.
The Medium will be one of the first Xbox Series X games. And unlike most of the end of the year titles, it will not be intergenerational, it will only appear on the new generation console (along with PC) as one of the Optimized Games for Series X. Why is this? Well, in an interview for the official Xbox portal, Bloober Team has talked about the reasons behind their decision to go out only in the new generation, and everything lies in something very simple: the technology of Xbox Series X allows them to create the experience they had always dreamed of.
“[Xbox Series X] is a truly great piece of hardware, one that allows us to bring our vision for the game to life without compromising it,” says Jacek Zięba, producer of the game. In this, the developer added that adapting the proposal to current consoles would have meant changing its entire playable approach, something that does not happen in Series X with its features: ” Thanks to the power of Xbox Series X, we can develop the game as we always had I am not just talking about the graphics, although it certainly helps to create an immersive and disturbing atmosphere, but also the gameplay. ”
According to the producer of The Medium, the new faster SSDs represent a tangible change at a playable level, by eliminating any element that can take you out of the experience: “We use various ways to make the player enter both worlds, including the music and environments, and thanks to the absence of loading screens, these methods are much more effective. Before, it was difficult to keep the game immersive and cinematic with the cuts, and now the new generation has simply made that problem disappear “.
The Medium will revolve around duality. Not only as of the central theme of the adventure but also with two worlds that alternate during the adventure: the real and that of the spirits. Here, the power of the Xbox Series X will allow them to delve into “the interactions between the real and the spiritual world “, although they still cannot reveal concrete details about the mechanics of the title: “The marketing team will kill me if I count too much too soon, but we’re using the extra power to squeeze out what’s possible at the gameplay level in the new generation, and I’m looking forward to seeing the players’ reactions. ”
With the added power, Bloober Team believes that next-gen studios will be able to focus on innovating the playable, by removing the technical hurdles of previous consoles. “As we see more games developed specifically for the new generation, genuine breakthroughs and innovations will soon begin to emerge,” concludes Zięba. The Medium is coming to Xbox Series X and PC later this year with music by Akira Yamaoka, and a classic horror experience inspired by Silent Hill. Although they only mention them now, in the past the Bloober Team has delved into the reasons why it will not also be released on Xbox One.
