Xbox Series X: Could It Have Launched Earlier?

We hear rumours about both the stronger and weaker next-gen Xbox.

While we are waiting for the announcement of the Xbox Series S (codenamed Lockhart, it has been in the news for the past two weeks), as well as the July Xbox event, featuring the first-party (Xbox Game Studios – XGS) titles, we hear a thing or two about Microsoft. Thurrott’s Brad Sams. a reliable insider brought up interesting developments.

Sams thinks Microsoft wanted to release the Xbox Series X in August! We can’t even think of a console in the past three console generations that was released in this month. The Nintendo GameCube saw its initial release in Japan in September 2001, but that’s not August… and what about the Xbox Series S? He says Microsoft wanted to release that in OCTOBER to give time and space for the stronger Xbox.

Sams also speculated about the shape of the Xbox Series S. Microsoft employees, who travel around with pre-release consoles, have to keep them safe and away from prying eyes to keep that NDA (non-disclosure agreement) going. Now, they disguise the new consoles. The Xbox Series X is often hidden inside a PC case or speakers. The Xbox Series S is hidden inside an Xbox One X case for example, which means it’s probably not going to be an extremely small console, plus it will not follow the Xbox Series X’ split motherboard design.

Meanwhile, VGC and VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb said that the XGS games’ showcase will happen on the week of July 20, with the former claiming it’s going to be held on July 23. There will be some presence by third-party publishers, too. The sources say we will see Halo Infinite gameplay for the first time, Playground Games might showcase something (Forza Horizon 5? New Fable?), and The Initiative, the elite XGS studio, might reveal its first game here.

To both, all we can say is: we’ll see…
