The Coalition has delved into the Xbox Series X enhancements for its 2019 adventure Gears 5.
Xbox Series X will hit stores later this year, and one of the first X-Series Optimized Games, as Microsoft calls them, is none other than Gears 5 itself. The Coalition’s latest adventure is considered one of the milestones not only for the series, but by Xbox One X technicians as well, and with the new console on the way, the studio has detailed the different improvements that we will see in a few months.
On the occasion of this week’s Inside Unreal event, the studio has participated live to discuss the improvements planned for the title. In this sense, the improved version of Gears 5 on Xbox Series X will have many of the qualities of the current version of PC executed in Ultra quality, such as higher resolution textures, improvements in shadows and post-processing, or drawing distances “extremely distant” with a high level of detail, among other things that we list below:
- Higher resolution textures
- Improved anisotropic filter
- Higher resolution volumetric fog
- Higher quality in depth of field
- Extremely far draw distances with a high level of detail
- Improvements in shadow resolution and shading distance
- High-quality scene reflections
- Post-processing improvements such as bloom, lens flare, light rays …
These are the imported improvements of the Ultra version of Gears 5 on PC, but what is really interesting are the improvements that will be typical to the Xbox Series X version. According to The Coalition, this version will feature contact shadows, a technique that promises “shadows extremely realistic” by plotting the light source pixel by pixel. The SSAO will also be replaced by a Screen Space Global Illumination in real time, with a more natural effect for scene lighting.
Likewise, the studio highlights that the Xbox Series X version will have 50% more particles on stage than the PC version in Ultra quality, and the cinematic scenes of the game will also run at 4K @ 60 fps. Finally, and as they already pointed out a few months ago, their goal is for Gears 5 to reach 120 fps in multiplayer when playing on the new console, something they are still working on.
From what you can see, The Coalition want to dazzle with a version of Gears 5 superior even to that of the best computers, to demonstrate the potential of the new console. In any case, if you have missed some of the news from Microsoft this week, we remind you that the arrival of Project xCloud to Game Pass Ultimate has been announced in September at no additional cost, and that the first details of the event Xbox Series X July have also been provided.
This event will take place on Thursday of the next week at 9AM PT.
