Ubisoft is continuing the sad tradition that it does with its successful franchises from the first half of the 2000s: the popular classic series get ignored, or they don’t get as much of a treat they deserve.
Think about it: Splinter Cell hasn’t received a new AAA PC/console game for years, while Sam Fisher is relegated to guest appearances. While Beyond Good & Evil 2 is in development, it hasn’t been shown for a year again, and it is nothing like the first game. Prince of Persia’s story is even more disappointing. (Especially if we consider that Yannis Mallat, the producer of the series in the 2000s, has left Ubisoft due to the sexual harassment allegations.)
Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time is a… „location-based VR Escape Room,” which is developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, who showcased the first few images on Twitter.
The VR escape room supports the HTC Vive, the HTC Vive Pro, the Oculus Rift, but the fans cannot take them home. Nope, instead, they have to look for Ubisoft’s locations (https://www.ubisoftescapegames.com/the-dagger-of-time/) to try Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time. However, they seem to have forgotten a deadly pandemic that is happening in the world, so what on Earth WAS Ubisoft thinking?
This game is set in the Prince of Persia trilogy, which includes Sands of Time, Warrior Within, or The Two Thrones. In it, we are summoned by Kaileena to the Fortress of Time. Here, we will receive a restored Dagger of Time, which allows players to reach the Hourglass Chamber and stop an evil Magi. It can be played cooperatively with three players to solve puzzles to stop, slow, or rewind time.
Meanwhile, For Honor had a limited-time event for Prince of Persia (Blades of Time), which seems to underline how the French company doesn’t seem to care about its older IP.
