Sucker Punch‘ PlayStation 4-exclusive that launched nearly a week ago has a lot of Easter eggs.
AllGamesDelta’s Twitter showcases all the Easter egg origamis and what they reference. The axe is a nod to Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica, who developed 2018’s PlayStation 4-exclusive God of War – Kratos can wield this weapon. Ratchet is an obvious hint to Insomniac Games’ Ratchet & Clank series.
The brush is a nod to Pixelopus’ Concrete Genie, the bat and the ball is SIE San Diego’s work (they work on MLB: The Show – the baseball IP is going multiplatform shortly), the Tallneck is a giraffe-like creature seen in Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero Dawn, and the guitar is a hint at Naughty Dog (The Last of Us Part II). The Shadow of the Colossus figure is a respectful gesture at SIE Japan Studio (who helped Bluepoint Games in the PlayStation 4 remake of SotC), and the logos are for SIE London, as well as Kojima Productions. The bike nods to SIE Bend Studio (Days Gone), and the imp aims at Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet, Dreams). You can see it in a video as well:
So Sucker Punch’ game has referenced every Sony-related (or Sony-owned!) studio, which is a respectable gesture: despite Eric Lempel, PlayStation’s marketing head, saying that the PlayStation 4 still has a lot in store for it, let’s not deny that Ghost of Tsushima is the last major PS4-exclusive.
On Gamesindustry, we read that in the United Kingdom, the retail sales (so ONLY the physical ones!) brought Sucker Punch’ new IP to the top, becoming the best-seller for last week. It even surpassed the previous new PlayStation IP (Days Gone) by about 7%, which is an incredible result, considering the coronavirus. The game launched on the top of the sales charts, which is surprising: it even outsold Nintendo’s surprise Summer release, Paper Mario: The Origami King, which also launched on Friday.
The other eight games on the top 10: F1 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Last of Us Part II, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe, Grand Theft Auto V, Minecraft (Nintendo Switch), Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, Luigi’s Mansion 3. Is it us, or there are a LOT of PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch exclusive games here?!
