According To A Recent Study, 40% Of The World Is A Gamer

Research by DFC Intelligence has highlighted a number of interesting facts about the average gamer habits.

40% of the world’s population plays video games, but only a small percentage is on consoles

The world of video games is one of the cultural industries that move the most money in the world and its impact continues to increase year after year. The confinement suffered by the coronavirus once again revealed it’s strength and it became essential to entertain the population in hard times. Now, thanks to a study by DFC Intelligence, we have new insights into their overwhelming success.

DFC Intelligence is dedicated to analyzing the video game industry and they are specialized in forecasting market behaviour. Now, this consultancy has carried out a study that says that 3.1 billion people in the world play video games. That means that around 40% of the world’s population consumes video games regularly.

The curious thing about the data, although it’s probably not that surprising, is that, of those 3.1 billion, only 8% are consumers dedicated to consoles. Of course, consolers are the players who spend the most on average. Another interesting data is the number of users by world regions and the top is the following: Asia leads with 1.42 billion and Europe follows with 668 million; then Latin America with 383 million and North America with 261 million.

What also emerges from the study is that 1.5 billion people are PC gamers, but the report points out that many of these players are also users of consoles and mobile devices. By the way, in terms of the mobile market, the three regions of the world that most consume mobile games are Asia, with 53% of the total, Europe, with 17%, and Latin America, with 11%. Of course, seeing the absolute success of the industry, it is normal that players find it difficult to understand the possible increase in the price of video games in the next generation.

The video game sector has also been affected by the global health crisis and many of the governments approved a shock plan with various economic measures so that the industry can recover. Now, most studios use telework, getting used to the new work environment.
