Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War: 120 FPS, But Only On One Platform

Activision Blizzard took a rough launch on the new console generation.

Eurogamer reports that Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard launched 120 FPS support for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War with the latest patch, but on Xbox Series X, and without making big news about it: the patch notes don’t mention it whatsoever, but the players noticed it. Also, the Microsoft Store lists 120 FPS support for not only this year’s Call of Duty but also Call of Duty: Warzone.

DigitalFoundry started testing the game, and they also noticed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War hits 120 FPS on Xbox Series X, but the battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone is between 100-120. The Cold War game is limited to 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, and Warzone can’t go higher either –  then again, it might need a new port, as it runs via backwards compatibility. It could be a limiting factor.

Call of Duty’s fans are already neck-deep into the new game’s multiplayer, and a highly upvoted Reddit thread shows a lot of critique by the players. „I have almost 200 destroys with my launcher. It’s level 8,” one player said. „one of my weapons has 825 kills and it’s only level 41. I’m cool with the player XP being slow but the weapon XP being this slow just isn’t the move,” another one added.

It could be slow because of the fewer weapons, but let’s also not forget that those who play on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 have a big advantage: they get 25% in experience boost. They also receive exclusive monthly double XP events, tilting the situation even further in their favour.

They will probably complain again when the microtransactions will kick in. They will come, just you wait.
