Shortly, the PC and the iOS will both receive the cloud streaming functionality of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
„In Spring 2021, we will take the next step in our journey to reach more players around the world by making cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate available on Windows PCs through the Xbox app and browser, and iOS devices through a mobile web browser. By adding over a billion devices as a path to playing in the Xbox ecosystem, we envision a seamless experience for all types of players; whether it’s playing Minecraft Dungeons with your Xbox friends using touch controls on an iPhone, or jumping into a Destiny 2: Beyond Light strike on a Surface Pro when you have a break between meetings,” Microsoft wrote on its website. Using the browser on iOS is to get around the Apple App Store limitations.
The Redmond-based company also confirmed that several new countries will receive the function: „We’ll bring cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to new markets, including Australia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico, where we recently began our limited Project xCloud preview program.” Sounds reasonable. They should just call it xCloud, though.
Microsoft also provided launch data for the two new Xbox Series consoles: „Over 1.6 million seamless upgrades delivered to Xbox Series X|S owners with Smart Delivery. Over 40% of you joining Xbox for the first time are playing on Xbox Series S. One of the fastest-selling Xbox Series X|S markets out of 40+ launch regions, Europe saw record sellouts in a matter of hours across the UK, France and Germany,” they wrote.
So PC streaming is not that far away – it can be a useful idea for some older computers, but it might sound good on paper, a lack of input lag and a reasonable frame rate is necessary to make streaming reasonable. Until then, the Game Pass will expand by these games next year: Halo Infinite, Psychonauts 2, The Ascent, The Medium, The Gunk, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, ExoMecha, Shredders (console exclusive at launch from The Ascent until Shredders), Scorn, SkateBird, Dead Static Drive, and The Good Life.
