Dying Light 2‘s situation feels more and more chaotic, going by the recent news.
The last time we discussed the game, Techland allegedly said that they will provide more updates about Dying Light 2 this year, but the first news regarding it in 2021 is not that good: Pawel Selinger, who worked at Techland for no less than 22 years, announced his departure from the Polish dev team on LinkedIn.
„After over twenty-two years, I decided to end my cooperation with Techland. I would like to express my gratitude to the company that has allowed me to develop and fulfil myself for half of my life. Techland, I will always be rooting for you, as well as the great people I have met thanks to you. I wish you that Dying Light 2 and subsequent projects will become world hits. Goodbye, and good luck!”, Selinger wrote. Unfortunately, this statement doesn’t give us a clue WHY he left Techland.
Reportedly, Selinger became the lead writer of Dying Light 2 after veteran Chris Avellone has been removed from the team (he constantly argued with the creative director, Adrian Ciszewski) after allegations of inappropriate behaviour and sexual harassment surfaced at other studios. Still, it’s confirmed that Salinger had a pivotal role in the base concept of Dying Light 2, and he may be still working on a game in one way or another, but we have to sadly state that Techland’s situation feels far from optimistic.
Dying Light 2 doesn’t even have a release window (which is why we are concerned), and it’s in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. However, seeing the PS4/X1 launch performance of Cyberpunk 2077, we wouldn’t be surprised if Techland cut these ports from the equation.
