The King Of Fighters XV Will Come This Year; An Older Title Also Heads To PS4 [VIDEO]

While The King of Fighters XV was revealed, another instalment of the series will arrive on Sony’s 2013 console.

After a small delay, SNK announced the first video and images of The King of Fighters XV. They only said that it will arrive this year, but we have no clue what platforms will receive it. Maybe the next trailer, which is scheduled to arrive next week. „The day we can reveal The King of Fighters XV has finally come! As you just saw in the trailer, there were many flashy and bombastic action scenes, but can you tell us a little bit more about how the game will play?”, producer Yasuyuki Oda said in a video message.

„Sure thing. We’re focusing on keeping the series’ staple of being fast-paced, while also adding elements to make it more exciting. We’re able to do things now for both sound and visuals that were impossible back when developing XIV, so we’re taking our time making sure each element is refined. Right now, we’re focusing on brushing up features and optimizing the game. Though I expect some obstacles to get in our way, we’re planning to have it ready to ship this year,” Creative director Eisuke Ogura responded. Oda had a question: „Do you have any other plans at the moment?”

Here’s Ogura’s response: „Well, we have another trailer in the oven and it should be ready to release next week! More info will be coming out periodically, so look forward to that!… Ah yes. We’re planning an animated promotional short directed by someone very special. Fatal Fury fans may know him best from animating those awesome films in the 90s! That’s right, I’m talking about the Masami Obari! King of Fighters fan-favourites will be featured in this special anime short along with the game’s theme song, so absolutely don’t miss it!” The King of Fighters XV’s website can be found here. The first trailer features Shun’ei, Kyo, Benimaru, K’, Mai, and Leona.

SNK added that The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is launching „soon” on PlayStation 4. (Unfortunately, the video of it below has to be watched on YouTube, as it is age restricted. This is one of the worst moves of the company, especially how the Japanese version isn’t limited!) „We’re proud to announce The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is coming to PlayStation 4! This version features online rollback netcode, so please go wild until The King of Fighters XV releases!”, Oda said.

Here’s an overview: „The King of Fighters 2002 returns in a fully tuned-up version! The second entry in the Ultimate Match series… The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match on PlayStation 4! The largest character roster in the history of The King of Fighters! 66 combatants eager to fight. The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match‘s exclusive character Nameless joins the tournament! Fighting strategies have been deeply improved! Aim for amazing comebacks and change the outcome of the battle! Reduced online lag with its new “Rollback Netcode.” A variety of game modes: aim to clear all 50 missions in “Challenge Mode,” create your combos in “Practice Mode,” see how long you can survive in “Endless Mode.”

The PC version on Steam, developed by Code Mystics, recently got the rollback netcode update. (It means there is no input lag, but some actions might be lost to sync both players, resulting in some rollback.)

So the franchise tries two instalments this year… and the PlayStation 4 might get both of them. However, the audiovisual comment might be hinting at skipping the PS4 in favour of the PlayStation 5.
