It’s a surprisingly big company that stands next to Dead Space’s creator to help with the marketing and the distribution… but the IP might follow the footsteps of The Walking Dead!
The Callisto Protocol was announced in December, and it’s set on a dead moon of Jupiter, Callisto (and its Black Iron Prison, to be more precise) in the year 2320. We need to escape unspeakable horrors while getting out of the prison in one piece to uncover the dark secrets of the mysterious United Jupiter Company. The team behind the game is the same that worked on Dead Space under Electronic Arts and Visceral Games, helmed by Glen Schofield, the creator of Dead Space.
Now, Skybound Games (the gaming arm of The Walking Dead comics’ creator, Skybound Entertainment!) announced that they teamed up with Krafton (the publisher) and Striking Distance Studios (the developer) to help with the global distribution and the marketing, allowing the survival horror title to reach more people.
„Striking Distance Studios has one goal with The Callisto Protocol—to make one of the most terrifying games of all time. Skybound Entertainment is unrivalled in the worlds of sci-fi and horror storytelling and will be an incredible partner for Krafton and Striking Distance Studios as we bring the world of The Callisto Protocol to life in games and beyond,” Glen Schofield, CEO of Striking Distance Studios wrote in the press release.
„The team at Striking Distance Studios are the video game industry’s best at creating blockbuster games. Through Skybound, The Walking Dead has expanded from its original comic book to multiple television series, books, video games, merchandise, and more, and we can’t wait to explore similar possibilities for The Callisto Protocol with Skybound’s multiplatform expertise. We’re excited to be working on this IP alongside the game’s publisher, Krafton,” Robert Kirkman, Chairman of Skybound Entertainment and creator of The Walking Dead, said. „Krafton is thrilled to join forces with Skybound Entertainment to help us bring Striking Distance Studio’s ambitious new take on survival horror to life. We’ve assembled a dream team of developers and publishing talent that is poised to redefine sci-fi horror for a whole new generation of gamers around the world,” Ashley Youngsun Nam, Head of Global Business Development and Studio Management for Krafton, Inc., added.
The Callisto Protocol will launch „on consoles and PC” in 2022. (Possibly the PlayStation 5 and the two Xbox Series.)
