Nintendo could lift the veil on its new Nintendo Switch console as early as June, for a release targeting the September and October 2021.
The Eurogamer website corroborates Bloomberg’s information pointing to an announcement of the console before E3. The aim would be to let publishers unveil the first “Switch Pro” titles at the June event.
On Nintendo’s side, leaks and rumors have been converging for several months on a new, more powerful Nintendo Switch console model. The existence of this model, dubbed “Nintendo Switch Pro“, is now even mentioned by OLED screen designers, as the console should incorporate a 7-inch slab with this technology.
The very serious Bloomberg was able to ask its sources once again about the release schedule of this new product, whose existence no longer seems to be in doubt.
Announcement in June, production in July, release in September
We learn that Nintendo is preparing the start of full production of its new Switch for July. The firm is aiming for a release of the console on the market for the months of September or October, according to sources close to the case. The short delay may seem surprising when we remember that Sony had started the production of the PS5 in June for a release in November, which had been the subject of a worldwide break. The Nintendo Switch is also a very popular console, so let’s hope that the 3 or 4 months of advance production will be enough to offer sufficient stocks if this schedule is confirmed.
According to Bloomberg, this new Nintendo Switch would be officially presented in the next few days, even before the E3 which is scheduled to start on June 12. This timing makes sense, this is the right time for big announcements in video games and it would allow publishers to present “Nintendo Switch Pro” games as early as E3 without fear of breaking an embargo.
Disappearance of the classic Switch and rising price
Of course, the big unknown in this new equation remains the selling price of this new model. According to Bloomberg, it would be higher than the classic Switch today, sold at 300 euros, which would be explained by an increase in the cost of components and assembly in China (thanks to an increase in wages).
To keep the range simple and clear, Nintendo would eventually remove the “classic” Switch from its catalog. The article does not specify the exact timetable and talks about a gradual disappearance of the console. This would lead to the following range:
- the Nintendo Switch Lite at 200 euros, very light and compact
- the Nintendo Switch “Pro” at more than 300 euros (400 euros?) more powerful and “4K compatible”.
See you in a few weeks to verify Bloomberg’s assertions.
