Sony Interactive Entertainment Bend Studio is thus not working on a single-player title, as their job listings reveal their plans about their next, currently unannounced project.
Their job listings include a senior network programmer position. This opening showed up about a month ago, but it took the Internet a while to notice it. It hints at what the group is working on, and it might be significantly different from what we came to expect from this dev team.
„Sony [Interactive Entertainment] Bend Studio, renowned creator of Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Syphon Filter, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting our next high-profile AAA console title. We are seeking a Senior Network Programmer to contribute to our development process on a AAA game.
This position specializes in specific areas of programming that centre around the support of low-level network issues (ex: TCP, UDP, etc.), multiplayer engine design/architecture, PlayStation Network platform services, digital rights management, patching and digital commerce,” the job listing reads.
Another open job is for a senior gameplay programmer. Its listing also openly mentions the term multiplayer. Bend is looking for someone who has previously worked on multiplayer titles. The successful applicant will work on „game logic, character behaviours, state-based animations selection, motion systems, scripted mini-games, physics systems, collision systems, rendering, particle effects, entities systems, camera logic, and audio support.”
Sony Interactive Entertainment Bend Studio previously had an idea to work on a Days Gone sequel. However, Sony went Duke Nukem and kicked the concept off the table altogether due to the lukewarm reception of the game (as for Sony, the Metacritic score is key). Thus, St. Deacon’s story is not going to continue. (Instead, Sony double dipped with the PC port of Days Gone…)
What could Bend be working on?
