A live-service Assassin’s Creed with high ambitions… and yet, two of Ubisoft’s Canadian studios are unhappy.
Many Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec employees have accused the leadership, and yet, the French company just said to the press that the position that third-party companies have investigated the allegations and that the company has dealt with them accordingly, even though several employees seem to state the opposite. Assassin’s Creed: Infinity is in an early phase of development, and its live-service model will offer multiple historical settings, adding more content to it over time… but the launch is still far away (the insiders claim it won’t launch before 2024!).
Ubisoft brought together two of its Quebec-based studios. However, the employees have noted that the reorganization has put many members of management accused of sexual harassment and abuse into lead roles. One of Bloomberg‘s sources claims that the devs have flooded the French company’s internal message board shortly after Ubisoft announced the project. They were mostly concerned or disappointed, regarding how the company handled the allegations.
However, others have been frustrated that they have been put on a massive project, prompting „a rising number of employees” from the Montreal studio to leave. Also, there seems to be an internal rivalry between the Montreal and the Quebec studios, and this may also lead to internal tensions between the two teams.
A Ubisoft spokesperson stated that the company „takes each allegation seriously,” and has conducted investigations into the allegations. This comment echoes what Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO, has said earlier this year. The publisher continues to stress the notion that it has done everything it could… and yet several of the accused people simply resigned without legal repercussions. And we don’t hear anything regarding Ubisoft’s previously accused human resources department either.
This won’t end well.
