The game has reached that price for being a unique and very limited edition, surpassing the previous Super Mario record.
It is not the first time that we have seen how a cartridge of a classic video game is sold for stratospheric prices. And if it is from a saga like The Legend of Zelda, it is easier for it to reach dizzying figures. So much so that what we are going to tell you is the record for the most expensive video game ever sold in all of history. This is a very special version of Link’s adventures on the NES and has been sold for no less than $ 870,000.
Why is it worth so much money? It is a sealed copy rated A on the Wata 9.0 system, certifying that it has never been opened. It has reached that number because it is believed to be one of only two sealed copies of the game that belongs to the “NES TM” line, the first production of the game in history, which only ran for a few months in late 1987 before it was replaced by a new variant in early 1988.
In this way, this unique version of The Legend of Zelda for NES surpasses the previous record that was set a few months ago, last April, when a copy of Super Mario Bros. was sold for $ 660,000 through an auction at Heritage.
Other games were sold at the auction, such as copies of Contra, Final Fantasy or Pokémon Blue, but none of them with such an excessive price. Will this record ever be broken?
