Diablo Immortal delayed to 2022 with promise of improved mobile RPG action

Blizzard offers a small preview of the changes from Diablo Immortal that will take place in the coming months.

Just months after reaffirming its 2021 release date, Blizzard has announced that Diablo Immortal for iOS and Android will be delayed to 2022, with the hope of releasing the action RPG in the first half of the year. This is all with the ultimate goal of delivering “a genuinely Diablo experience” that meets the expectations of players around the world.

“The community has played a key role in helping us define our vision for this game,” they wrote on their official website, noting that thanks to feedback from active players, they have made “several improvements to Diablo Immortal”. But there is still work to be done and elements to be refined or changed to deliver the best possible gameplay experience.

“We’re working on PvP content like the Conflict Cycle to make it more accessible, or endgame PvE systems like the Infernal to make them more engaging,” they report. “We also want to make it possible for players to play with a controller if they wish. To realise these improvements and “other opportunities to refine the gameplay experience further”, Blizzard needs more time, “so we’re estimating a game release in the first half of 2022”.

The creators of such iconic franchises as Warcraft and Starcraft have unveiled some of the new features they are currently working on for Diablo Immortal, with more content for PvE, such as recent PvE raids and better rewards for completing specific challenges. Competition also promises significant changes. “We think [PvP] has a lot of potentials, but also some room for improvement, so we’re evaluating matchmaking, rank gain, class balance, the time it takes to kill enemies, and other aspects of the Diablo Immortal experience.

Other prominent new features include the ability to use a controller to enjoy Diablo Immortal’s RPG action and changes to hero progression and gear to “make high-level and legendary gear more attractive and coveted, especially for players who have already maxed out one or more characters”. Blizzard has also announced that new tests will be available throughout 2021, though it is currently unknown when they will be available.
