Jason Bischoff, who formerly worked at Saban, revealed a few concept art images about a game idea including Power Rangers characters codenamed Project Nomad.
Power Rangers is an IP owned by Saban that many people around the world knows. One of the people behind it was Bischoff, who served as Saban’s global consumer products director. He revealed a story about a forgotten game concept on Twitter with a few marvellous images.
“Let’s talk about the 2016 AAA Power Rangers game that never was: PROJECT NOMAD! As a video game ex-pat (then at Saban), I had hoped to BusDev an ambitious, open-world co-op that captured the franchise’s energy, teamwork, and history through a fresh lens. Basically, ‘Arkham’ Rangers… or Gotham Knights five years before its announcement.
Sadly, with so much circulating through the studio at the time, there was no bandwidth or budget to support it. HOWEVER, what I did have was an invaluable ‘blessing’ to independently explore… and explore I did! Calling on old friends, we built the pitch we wanted to see. While these looks were never intended to be final, I think it’s safe to say we were onto something compelling! Shout-outs to Lineage, Carlos Dattoli, Jarold Sng and the many others who contributed!
While early talks with Devs/Publishers was favourable, ultimately, time and significant shifts in our business saw conversations around Project Nomad peter out. These things happen! The industry is built on ‘what could have
been.’ For now, let’s relish in this fantastic art and its kick-ass set-up: Eltar, under occupation, being freed by a myriad of Rangers from across the cosmos. Lots more to share another time. Happy Weekending, all! May the Power Protect You!” Bischoff wrote.
Bischoff left Saban in 2018 to join Hasbro, and since 2019, he’s been a director of Funko.
