Those invited for an interview might be bothered by how the Activision Blizzard workers are pushing for a change…
“So hey, I’m seeing recruiters approaching ABK workers who are pushing for change, telling them to stop being so loud. It’s making it hard for them to find candidates. It is never OK to tell people to stop advocating for a better workplace,” Valentine Powell, a Blizzard user interface engineer, shared on Twitter.
Jessica Gonzales, another Blizzard employee, shared evidence: she got an email from a recruiter, and she shared this message: “Hey Jessica, I am on the front line as a Recruiter. Some of the articles that you are sharing freak candidates out. Would you mind sharing what we are doing as a company to eliminate such toxic behaviour? ABK has made strides to head this off. Your updates don’t seem to address this.”
The recruiter seems to have forgotten how Activision Blizzard had a tone-deaf response to the lawsuit filed against the publisher in California. No wonder several other employees responded with variations of “As soon as we hear what the company is doing to eliminate toxic behaviour, we’d be happy to share it.” Not to mention that this recruiter seems to try policing what others are posting!
A recruiter should help the candidates feel at home to fit right in when they begin working at Activision Blizzard. The employees’ camaraderie is something they shouldn’t ignore: it could also help newcomers “grow” into the team more easily. This situation feels like the recruiters are blaming the employees for being open and outcoming about what is happening at the company.
We haven’t seen any significant changes around Activision Blizzard yet. Even though the CEO, Bobby Kotick, promised grandiose changes. But actions should follow words.
