A developer from Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica has spoken out to those who don’t like the fact that Angrboda in God Of War Ragnarok is dark-skinned.
The name of the 2018’s PlayStation 4-exclusive God of War‘s sequel was confirmed to be God of War Ragnarok, and it will be a PlayStation 5-only game (the same applies to Marvel’s Wolverine), and the video has a character, Angrboda, who was black. People on Twitter claimed that Norse mythology has no black Vikings or people of colour, although historians have disputed such claims.
And here comes Matt Sophos, the writer and story lead of God of War Ragnarok: “Do they also have blue Dwarves in Norse mythology Was Loki the son of a Greek demigod? Please show me in the Eddas where it says that all Jötunn were lily-white? Let me save you the time… you can’t. I’ve read them,” he asked from a troll on Twitter. The troll claimed that God of War’s eventual Egyptian series wouldn’t have white mythological characters to avoid double standards.
“You do know Jötunn aren’t real, right? Can they be anyone or anything? Some are even giant serpents? But I get it. You were only okay with Jörmungandr because his scales were white, right? Well, good luck to you. Hope you can find a game that better fits your sensibilities,” Sophos continued.
Benji-Sales revealed on Twitter an interesting statistic: “Most viewed trailers after 24 hours from yesterday’s PlayStation Showcase on YouTube: God of War Ragnarok – 10+ million views; Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – 9+ million; Marvel’s Wolverine – 7 million; Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake – 3+ million; Gran Turismo 7 – 1+ million, Forspoken – 1 million.”
So there is a lot of demand for God of War Ragnarok…
