Thor will play a pivotal role in the sequel of God of War. Or should we say sizeable (which is reasonable, as he too has to have human traits)?
God of War Ragnarok will feature Thor. This fact was an open secret ever since God of War launched exclusively on PlayStation 4 on April 20, 2018. In Sony Interactive Entertainment Santa Monica’s game, after you completed the main story and went back to your house (Kratos’ and Atreus’ home) to sleep, you had a secret ending, which teased a sequel with Thor, who got a proper reveal during the PlayStation Showcase.
God of War Ragnarok will get a new director: Cory Barlog’s place is now Eric Williams’, and he told Game Informer why Thor has a “dad body”: “We want him to be a big boy, you know. The Marvel interpretation of him is one thing. It’s interesting. We wanted to, you know, go a little deeper into the mythology itself. They [gods] have a presence immediately. And it’s not always because of muscles. They’re just like that is a wall of a human being, you know. So this is a wall of a God, you know, and that’s why it was imperative.”
Barlog added that a character doesn’t have to be well-built and muscular to be powerful and intimidating. The God of War iteration of Thor will practically be “a man child,” as he will be extremely powerful, without any limitation: he will do whatever he wants. “If you had that much power and you can do those things, you’re not going to grow,” Williams added.
God of War Ragnarok will be a cross-gen game (unlike Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine!), as it will launch next year on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
