Nintendo Lowers Price of Base Switch Model In Europe

Nintendo has decided to cut the price of the original Switch model price in Europe, which is the first-ever price cut for the console since its release.

Nintendo rarely provides discounts or price cuts on their products. The Nintendo Switch has been out since 2017 March, and this is the first time the product is getting a discount from Nintendo itself, and not just a Black Friday or Christmas discount.

The rumour has been going on for the past couple of weeks (you can read about the original rumour here), but it has now been officially confirmed that the price of the original model is getting its price slashed by 20GBP / 30EUR.

The reason for the price cut is due to a number of factors, and it’s primarily due to the new OLED model and some currency fluctuation – as per the statement provided by Nintendo below:

Nintendo of Europe is changing the European trade price of the Nintendo Switch console to retailers. More than four and a half years after its first release, Nintendo Switch continues to have strong sales momentum in Europe. After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch”.

No other regions have announced any price changes, and currently, this is only for the EU market.

This takes the original model down to £259.99/€299.99, down from £279.99/€329.99.

So if you want a cheaper Nintendo Switch and are not bothered about missing out on the OLED screen, now is the time to jump in.
