The Witcher Season 2: A Monstrous Trailer and Two Extracts [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Postponed because of the pandemic (not to mention an injury to Henry Cavill), The Witcher season 2 is finally in the can! See you on December 17th for this batch of new episodes that promises to be epic and wild with a central theme: the monster.

Netflix had a few surprises for The Witcher fans at TUDUM, with a brand new trailer and new first-look videos that give us more information than ever about the next season of the Henry Cavill-starring fantasy series. The new season arrives in December. To mark the occasion, Netflix has released a new ‘franchise trailer’ featuring footage from the highly acclaimed first season and new, never-before-seen footage from the second season. All of this, along with announcements about the franchise’s future, made today an enjoyable day for Witcher fans.

The trailer provided the first real glimpse into Season 2, following the previously released teaser as part of the Netflix Geeked event in July. The season will focus on Geralt’s (Cavill) Witcher family, with Vesemir, Eskel, Coen and Lambert also getting a role in the story as Ciri takes Geralt to train at Kaer Morhen.

The Witcher also has been renewed for a third season.

See you on December 17th for this batch of new episodes that promises to be epic and wild with a central theme: the monster.

The official synopsis for Season 2 reads, “Convinced that Yennefer has lost his life in the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia takes Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, her childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the kings of the continent, elves, men and demons battle for supremacy outside the walls, he must protect her from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she holds within.”

In addition to the three-minute trailer, Netflix has also released two first look clips from the upcoming season. In the first clip, Geralt reunites with his old friend Nivellen, who discusses how human children become witches after being conditioned to forget their human feelings and reactions. The second clip shows Ciri being woken up by Geralt, who warns her to “ride for her life” if anyone but him leaves the building, forcing her to have a bruxa in the house. We see Geralt stalking the monster inside the house, but of course, Netflix doesn’t want to give away all its secrets just yet, so the clip fades to black before something jumps out of the shadows.

There’s a lot more to know about The Witcher season 2 before season 2 arrives. The cast of the series: Henry Cavill (Geralt of Rivia), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), Jodhi May (Calanthe), Adam Levy (Mousesack), MyAnna Buring (Tissaia), Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla), Therica Wilson-Read (Sabrina), Emma Appleton (Renfri), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Joey Batey (Jaskier), Lars Mikkelsen (Stregobor), Royce Pierreson (Istredd), Maciej Musiał (Sir Lazlo), Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Dara) and Anna Shaffer as Triss.

In addition to the unveiling of season two, Netflix also made several other announcements about the expanding world of The Witcher, including a new anime movie, a children’s series and the unexpected confirmation that a third season of the flagship series is on the way. All of these combined for a full day of revelations about the series, and there was a lot for fans who were disappointed with the tiny little reveals made during Netflix’s Geeked Week in July to process. Still, this time they were well compensated for their patience.

The first season of The Witcher and the anime film Nightmare of the Wolves are currently streaming on Netflix.
