Arne Meyer was previously Communications Director at the studio, but will now continue in a different role at Naughty Dog.
“[I’m] thrilled to say that I’m now a vice president at Naughty Dog, joining the fantastic studio leadership team! Proud to be expanding my responsibilities and working alongside them on things like people and culture, organizational practices, and the well-being of our devs,” Meyer wrote on Twitter. As he has been the studio’s communications director for a dozen years (around since Uncharted 2), he has been a critical component in Naughty Dog’s games’ pre-release marketing; it’s no surprise to hear that he’s also responsible for the studio’s internal communications that will be expanding.
On LinkedIn, he provided more details regarding his promotion: “The work I’m doing with the leadership team includes initiatives for the future and well-being of our devs focusing on studio culture, people, and organizational practices. Over the last few years, we’ve already taken steps in these areas, such as doubling down on coaching for people managers and developing plans for career development. There are more short- and long-term things already underway as well. I’m proud and humbled to be part of a team of brilliant and outstanding people who are committed to making progress on these focus areas and ensuring that the studio remains one of the finest places to be for devs who want to make awesome and important games,” Meyer wrote.
It’s about time! In 2019, Naughty Dog’s ex-employees stepped up to reveal that during Uncharted 4: A Thief‘s Development (until 2016), there were cases of 24-hour workdays. Nowadays, the studio wants to give more time to work on the unannounced but effectively confirmed (multiplayer…) The Last of Us: Factions.
At least we see some signs of improvement.
