League of Legends Series: Active Players Reached 180 Million In October – It’s More Than The Active Users Of Steam!

Riot Games has published the October numbers for League of Legends users who logged in at least once. Behold: there are a lot of them…

It’s perhaps not an exaggeration to say that it’s one of the most influential and important video games in history, and although it’s been around for a few years, the popularity of the series seems to continue unabated. League of Legends is doing well, thank you very much; and the other games (and not just games) in its universe are keeping pace. But if for some reason we were expecting more depressing news on that front, Riot Games has made it clear that things are still going well.

To get November off to a good start, the company has shared the monthly active users of the Runeterra universe. The total number of active players is 180 million, which Riot posted on its official Twitter account. The data refers to users who have logged in at least once in the past month.

PC Gamer asked which titles specifically make up this number, and it appears to be for League of Legends, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Teamfight Tactics and Battle of Golden Spatula (in China), so it doesn’t include Valorant, for example.

Just for context, this 180 million is a much higher than that of Steam, which had 120 million monthly active users across its entire platform in 2020. Of course, that’s not so surprising, given that Wild Rift reportedly generated $150 million in revenue in its first year alone.
