Frontier Developments was forced to lower its fiscal year-end estimates due to PC sales of its Jurassic World game.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the perfect game for anyone who loves the movies and/or the dinosaurs in the movies. Although the trailers have caught the attention of many, it seems that the game’s commercial performance has been less than satisfactory. At least, that is what Frontier Developments claims in its report to investors, as it has been revealed that the PC version of the title has not met its targets.
“Pre-order sales of Jurassic World Evolution 2 were encouraging, with unit volumes on each platform comparable to the levels achieved by Jurassic World Evolution in the run-up to its release in June 2018. However, sales of the game over the initial period following its release have been lower than expected on the PC platform,” the developer explained in the release.
However, Frontier Developments has found a reason for this phenomenon, as the console versions are selling as expected. “We believe this is potentially a short-term effect from a more crowded release window than expected, with a number of other highly anticipated titles launching in the same window,” they added. In this context, it is worth noting that Jurassic World Evolution 2 was released on the same day as Forza Horizon 5 and Football Manager 2022, while GTA: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition and Skyrim: Anniversary Edition were released a few days later.
Frontier Developments has therefore decided to revise its estimates for the end of the fiscal year ending March 2022. Whereas in September they were expecting a total profit of £130-150 million, they now believe that these figures should be reduced to £100-130 million. So while the commercial performance of Jurassic World Evolution 2 on PC is seen as just a blip, they are already preparing for the end of financial year results.
