Counterplay Games is trying to defend Godfall’s honour, but of course, it may not be doing so with much success…
A new edition of Godfall was officially announced this week. Godfall: Challenger Edition has been announced by Sony, as it will be part of the December PlayStation Plus line-up, but we knew that before because the ‘blues’ just can’t stop the PS Plus leaks. However, it wasn’t long before critical voices emerged about the new version of the game sneaking into PlayStation 5 launch titles.
In Godfall: Challenger Edition, we’ll have the chance to try out three endgame modes and get a taste of some high-end, powerful loot, so we’ll be able to try out Godfall at maximum level. That definition alone is enough to raise eyebrows, right? But Counterplay Games managed to top it off with a statement sent to Eurogamer.
According to the studio, this version of Godfall is not a trial but a cut-price release with limited features, which the team is pushing so hard that it will even be available for free on the Epic Games Store from December 9th to December 16th, in case you don’t want to play it on PlayStation (for whatever reason; after that, it’ll cost 15 euros on Tim Sweeney’s store). And if that wasn’t enough, we should look a bit into Sony’s marketing.
PlayStation Plus, which is supposed to offer full games, will not be getting the original Godfall. Even if you get the Challenger Edition through a subscription, you will still have to pay 45 dollars/euro to get everything! On the one hand, this is a rather cost-cutting move by Sony (if there are more and more PlayStation Plus subscribers, wouldn’t it make sense to improve the quality of the service?), and on the other hand, Counterplay is almost making gamers look like fools.
Eurogamer has cleverly pointed out that the Digital Deluxe Edition of Godfall is currently available to buy from the PlayStation Store 50% off for about 25 GBP. Why not just get that version?
