Square Enix reveals several new details about Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Of all the games Square Enix has scheduled for next year, Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a curious beast with quite a reputation. Many fans were surprised that Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Origin The project will be an action RPG similar to Team Ninja Souls, with many elements indicating that it will also be a prequel. The initial trailer and formal unveiling of Final Fantasy Origins was during E3 2021, complete with a teaser showing what to expect.
However, this trailer received an immediate mixed reaction, with fans and critics alike harpooning the game’s very avant-garde aesthetic and character design. The game’s protagonist, Jack, was the biggest target of ridicule. From the character tonally clashing with the game to a piece of footage from Final Fantasy OriginsDemo that went viral, there was no shortage of laughs. However, some fans were willing to give the game a chance, whether it was because of the interesting soul-like mechanics introduced, the other party members introduced or even some of the multiplayer components.
Last month, Square Enix showed screenshots of new characters introduced in Final Fantasy Origins, such as Mia, the younger sister of Princess Sarah. The latest screenshots from the game show more of these new characters, such as the dark elf king, Astos. He provides Jack and his companions with the location of the crystals they are looking for, though he gives off an air of mystery, considering he also already knows who the party are.
These screenshots also reveal the fifth member of Final Fantasy Origins, a woman known as Sophia. Like Jack, she also wants to kill Chaos. A screenshot shows Astos showing this group the way to the Wind Crystal, though the multi-headed demon, Tiamat, has attacked them. It pits players against this boss who can strike with deadly wind elemental attacks and multiple heads.
Some of the locations were also shown, such as the Western Fortress, where Astos resides. This particular location is an ancient war-torn castle, where players will be attacked with flying arrows as they make their way through the dungeon. Other areas include the beautiful tower known as Crystal Mirage and a Flying Fortress where the Wind Crystal is kept.
Final details revealed include the job system and abilities that Final Fantasy Origins will have. As players defeat enemies, characters will level up and earn job points, which can be spent to unlock new abilities. Some of the jobs available include Jack’s initial swordsmanship job, the elemental magic mage and the fist-fighting warrior known as the pugilist.
Stranger from Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin launches for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox X/S Series on March 18, 2022.
