MOVIE NEWS – A newly released synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom suggests Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry will need unexpected help to save Atlantis
A newly released synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom teases an unexpected alliance for Jason Momoa’s hero. Momoa and Amber Heard return to star alongside Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Black Manta. Fresh off his horror throwback, Evil, James Wan also returns to direct the film with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick taking on exclusive screenwriting duties. The 2018 sequel Aquaman just wrapped filming earlier this month and will be released on December 16, 2022.
Wan’s 2018 Aquaman The Movie was an unexpectedly huge success. The film grossed more than $1.1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing DC movie of all time, surpassed only by The Dark Knight. The film was generally well-received by critics and audiences alike, and the general consensus was that it was an entertaining Indiana Jones-style action-adventure film. Work on Aquaman 2 began shortly after the first film’s release, and fans received their first preview of the movie with a behind-the-scenes featurette released during DC FanDome a few months ago.
Now, Warner Bros. has released a new synopsis for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom that suggests a new direction for Arthur Curry. The synopsis says that Momoa’s Aquaman will have to team up with an unexpected character to save Atlantis and the world. The synopsis reads:
“When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.”
While the synopsis is vague, it provides the most detail. Aquaman fans have learned the plot of the new film. Given that Orm and Black Manta are returning, with Mateen II teasing a more significant role for his villain, it’s safe to assume that Aquaman will team up with one of the two villains. A shot from the DC FanDome showed Curry and Orm running side by side, which along with this synopsis, makes an Aquaman/Ocean Master team-up more likely.
Only after releasing Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Suicide Squad in 2021 DC is gearing up to have a big year in 2022. James Gunn’s Peacemaker The series debuts on HBO Max in January. Batman is scheduled for March. DC League of Super-Pets is coming in May. Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is finally coming out in July. In November, Ezra Miller’s The Flash hit theatres with Andy Muschietti (It) directing. And finally, the year will close with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom taking the same December release like its predecessor. So, 2022 will be an exciting year for DC, and it will be interesting to see how Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom compares to its predecessor.
